Netflix's The Worlds Most Amazing Vacation Homes, the Wonderhaus is located in the beautiful and magical town of
Pagosa Springs, Colorado.
Recently named as one of the best places to live in the USA by
Outside Magazine, you'll instantly fall in love with Pagosa's beauty and charm.
Pagosa's claim to fame is that it's home to the world's deepest hot springs at over 1,000 feet deep. The "Mother Spring" feeds the primitive hot spring soaking pools located on the banks of the San Juan River which flows through town. Many buildings throughout town are heated by the steam from the springs, including the public schools. Even
Riff Raff Brewery uses nature's power for it's brewing system.
Speaking of beer, Pagosa is home to three breweries and numerous bars and restaurants. The downtown area is filled with opportunities for shopping and people watching.
To the north of Pagosa is America's greatest mountain range, the San Juan's. Surrounded by three million acres of national forest, it will feel like you have the entire mountain range to yourself as you enjoy many activities like hiking, mountain biking, camping and fishing.
Perhaps the greatest feature Pagosa has to offer is the
Wolf Creek Ski Area. With an average snowfall of 430 inches a year, Wolf Creek offers the most snow in Colorado! Since it's nearly five hours from Denver and four hours from Albuquerque, you'll never wait in a lift line unless it's a major holiday. Plus, you can still find secret patches of powder even two weeks after a storm.
While Wolf Creek has a base elevation of 10,300 ft, Pagosa Springs sits at 7,100 feet down in the valley. With it's dry climate and over 300 days of sunshine and average temps in the 40's during the winter and the 70's during the summer, Pagosa Springs feels like heaven!
Best of all...it's affordable. With most homes around ski areas in Colorado approaching the million dollar barrier, you can still find quality homes here in Pagosa in the 400's and condo's in the 200's. While the Town of Pagosa recently enacted short-term rental restrictions, most of the homes in the area are actually located in the county, which does not restrict short-term rentals. These county homes still offer the convenience of city water/sewer and natural gas lines.
